Olvia is an ancient Greek settlement visited by the "father of history" Herodotus-was one of the largest ancient centers in the Northern Black Sea region. It had a huge rural district in the form of settlements and farms on the shores of the sea and its estuaries, trade and economic ties with Hellas. In its heyday, the city's territory reached 55 hectares, its necropolis - up to 500 hectares. Along the banks of the Bug, Dnieper and Berezansky estuaries there were one and a half hundred rural settlements that made up the rural district of the city. Throughout its history, Olvia has been closely associated with both the ancient world and the local, so-called barbarian environment.
